Paphos drivers report an increase in nail bites on the roads
Motorists in several parts of Paphos are reporting a noticeable increase in tire punctures caused by nails deliberately scattered on certain roads, it was revealed on Wednesday.
The Cyprus Mail contacted a tire repair shop that was first to report the phenomenon. They confirmed an unusually high number of tire punctures in recent weeks.
An employee of Costas Tyre Service in Mesoyi confirmed that dozens of vehicles are coming in for repairs due to nail punctures every day – a drastic increase compared to the usual four to five cases per day .
Diko MP Chrysanthos Savvides was informed about the problem and promised to investigate possible acts of vandalism or criminal intent behind these incidents, Philenews reported.
However, Paphos police spokesman Michalis Nikolaou told the Cyprus Mail that police patrols had so far not detected any criminal activity in connection with the incidents and that no official complaints had been received about deliberately strewn nails .
