Energy-saving showers installed for Protaras beaches
In Protaras, a sustainable upgrade has been initiated: the municipality of Paralimni-Derynia announced that 18 modern solar showers have been installed across the main beaches,
distributed as follows: one shower each at Kapparis, Ayia Triada, Vyzakia (Cavo Maris) and Potami (Marlita); two in Louma and Pernera; three in Fig Tree Bay; and seven in Vrisi.
The use is not free of charge: For 0.50 € you can shower for 30 seconds. The fee is intended to help maintain the facilities and better regulate water consumption, especially in the high season.
Technically, the systems are based on solar energy, which can reduce energy consumption and costs. The aim is also to minimise waste of wastewater and stagnant puddles of water, which have caused problems in the past.
The municipality sees the project as an environmental and beauty measure in one: visitors should have a comfortable experience, while the coastal zone remains well-maintained and future-oriented.
: The new solar showers combine comfort with environmental awareness and help to manage water and energy more efficiently. Protaras shows how modern tourism and ecology can be thought together.
