Paphos cleans up: Volunteers invite to a big clean-up campaign for a clean environment
Paphos is once again setting an example for environmental awareness and a sense of community: The City Friends Club is organising another major clean-up campaign and cordially invites residents, families, children and pet owners to take action together and rid nature of illegally disposed waste.
The meeting point is Glyfadas Street in Paphos on 4 July 2026 from 8:00 am . Prior registration is not required – interested parties can simply come by and help.
Hidden garbage dumps come to light
Some illegal garbage dumps remain undiscovered for years because dense bushes and tall grass hide them. But after the vegetation was cut back, numerous pieces of waste came to light. Now the affected area is to be jointly restored to a clean and attractive condition.
The organizers emphasize that it is not only about collecting garbage, but also about community, responsibility and the good feeling of changing something visible together within a few hours.
Schedule of the clean-up on 4 July 2026
The programme for the day of action is as follows:
- 08:00–08:20: Meeting of volunteers, briefing and distribution of equipment
- 08:20–10:00: Joint clean-up 10
- :00: Group photo
- 10:00–10:30: Break, exchange and get-together
What the participants can expect
The organizers provide the helpers with free of charge:
- garbage bags
- , protective gloves,
- grippers, drinking water if necessary,
- and a refill station
Participants are asked to bring their own reusable water bottles if possible.
Comfortable clothing that can get dirty is recommended, as well as sturdy shoes. Due to the summer temperatures in Cyprus, sun protection and a hat should not be missing.
The event is expressly family-friendly and is also suitable for children and pets.
City Friends Club: More than just collecting rubbish
Behind the campaign is the City Friends Club, a non-profit organisation that has been committed to a cleaner environment in Cyprus for four years. According to its own information, around 465,640 kilograms of waste have already been collected so far. More than 3,000 volunteers, six trucks and several permanent cleaners support the work of the organization.
The initiative pursues the goal of establishing waste collection not only as a necessary task, but also as a social movement. In doing so, the association works closely with municipalities, companies and citizens.
