The incident occurred on Thursday morning at around 11 a.m. in the area of the Sea Caves near Ayia Napa. According to the police's initial findings, the young woman was driving a quad bike and wanted to park the vehicle in a parking lot.

With her was a 26-year-old passenger on the quad.

When parking, the 22-year-old apparently lost control of the vehicle. The two people fell into a nearby depression. However, the quad itself continued its journey.

The vehicle then broke through the existing guardrail and fell into the sea.

Driver with vertebral injury in hospital

The 22-year-old was taken to Famagusta General Hospital after the accident. There, the doctors diagnosed a fracture on a vertebra. She then remained in hospital for further treatment.

No further information was given about the state of health of the 26-year-old passenger.

Shortly after the accident, videos appeared on social networks. It shows how the quad bike drives over the edge of the terrain and then lands in the water. Several people were nearby at the time and observed the event.

The police were on the scene and began investigations to clarify the exact course of the accident.

The area around the Sea Caves is one of the well-known destinations near Ayia Napa. At the same time, the area has considerable dangers in various places. In the past, there have already been accidents there in which people fell from rocks and injured themselves.

Barriers and other security measures have therefore already been installed on parts of the site.

The current accident makes it clear that visitors should be particularly careful when driving and parking near the coast. Even a brief moment of carelessness can have serious consequences in the sometimes steep terrain.
