Record year 2025: Significantly more German tourists in Cyprus
The year 2025 has proven to be exceptionally successful for tourism. As Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis explained, Cyprus recorded a new high in arrivals from Germany for the first time in almost three decades.
On the sidelines of a visit to the Christmas market in Statos-Ayios Fotios in the district of Paphos, Koumis emphasized that Germany has been one of the world's strongest markets of origin for international travel for years. For Cyprus, this market has long played a rather subordinate role: the previous record was around 250,000 arrivals in 1997.
"In 2025, we exceeded this mark for the first time," says Koumis. This means that after 28 years, a new level of performance has been reached. The German market is now in particular focus, which is why the Ministry of Tourism has implemented targeted measures together with the industry to further accelerate growth.

Koumis named the significantly improved flight connections between Germany and both Cypriot airports as a key factor. It is equally important that German guests not only visit classic holiday regions, but also show interest in different parts of the country. The government's goal is to distribute the economic effects of tourism as widely as possible across the entire island.
According to the Minister, 2025 will be remembered as a year in which Cypriot tourism has stood out throughout Europe. Arrivals increased by 12 percent compared to the previous year and increased by around 40 percent within three years. At the same time, new highs in tourism revenues were reached.
Cyprus also performed excellently at the European level: According to a report by the Aviation Council International, the country ranked first in 2025 in terms of improving air connectivity compared to 2024 and second in comparing the years 2019 to 2025. In addition, Cyprus led the Mediterranean countries in terms of revenue growth in the first half of the year, recording the largest increase in overnight stays compared to 2024 to 2023.
In conclusion, Koumis underlined that the most important achievement for the government is that domestic tourism businesses have been able to record another very strong year – one that provides them with sustainable economic stability and resilience.
