Temperatures continue to drop over the weekend as cold front “Coral” reaches Cyprus
Cyprus will see a significant drop in temperatures over the weekend as the cold front “Coral” reaches its peak, senior meteorologist Andreas Chrysanthou said on Friday.

However, speaking to the Cyprus News Agency , he said that temperatures will gradually return to near-seasonal levels by the end of the month, just in time for Green Monday .

The cold front has caused a sharp drop in temperature across the entire island.

Already at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, the temperature in the central regions was 8°C , with an expected daily maximum of 10°C , which represents a drop of 9 degrees since Wednesday.

In the Troodos Mountains, temperatures fell to -1°C in the early morning, with daytime highs of 0°C to 1°C , a drop of 7 degrees compared to midweek. Coastal regions also saw a drop, with temperatures 6 to 8 degrees lower than Wednesday's levels.

The coldest days are forecast to be Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Maximum temperatures of around 10°C are expected in inland and coastal areas , while very low temperatures are expected in the higher mountain regions, with nighttime lows possibly reaching -8°C .

Even inland , temperatures could fall below freezing at night.
Chrysanthou added that authorities may issue weather warnings depending on how weather conditions develop.

The low temperatures are also expected to bring snowfall in the mountain and mid-altitude areas.

Light snowfall in lower altitude areas cannot be ruled out either.

From Wednesday onwards, temperatures are expected to rise again, but will remain below the seasonal average .
