Cyprus is sticking to the Eurovision Song Contest – even though several other countries have withdrawn their participation because of Israeli participation.
The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) confirmed to the Cyprus Mail that Cyprus will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest as planned without any changes, despite the decision to keep Israel in the competition – a decision that has triggered the withdrawal of several nations.
A spokesperson for the CyBC said:
"There will be no change in the participation of Cyprus. Everything is going as announced."

On Thursday, the organizing body voted to admit Israel – although some countries had announced in advance that they would withdraw in the event of such a decision.
The decision caused irritation throughout Europe, including in Germany and Spain, which are traditionally heavily involved in the competition.
Several countries – including Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and Slovenia – have now officially declared their withdrawal for this year.

A Eurovision fan told the Cyprus Mail
: "I don't understand why Israel is allowed to participate while Russia has been excluded from the beginning."

Russia has not been eligible to participate since 2022 because of the attack on Ukraine, but Israel remains admitted despite the more than 70,000 civilian deaths reported by the authorities in Gaza.
Officially, the Eurovision Song Contest sees itself as a non-political competition that prohibits political statements by broadcasters and artists.
