August 2026 had a lot to offer for the media world. New films, major music releases and numerous gaming announcements made the last month of summer particularly varied. Here are some of the most important entertainment topics – without politics.

In August, several interesting films were released in cinemas. "The Dog Stars", the new film from director Ridley Scott starring Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley, received particular attention. The post-apocalyptic film opened on August 28, 

and horror fans also got their money's worth: "Insidious: Out of the Further" started on August 21 and continues the well-known horror series with a new story. 

August offered both big blockbusters and new horror and fantasy material for cinema fans.

August was also a strong month musically. A special highlight was the new album "What Are The Odds" by Jorja Smith, which was released on August 21st.

The album combines her R&B and soul sound with UK garage, 2-step, house and other electronic influences. This makes it a particularly good fit for the current developments in the UKG and dance sector. 

The combination of classic vocals and modern dance beats shows how strongly different genres are now mixing with each other.

For the gaming world, August was especially important because of Gamescom 2026. The trade fair took place from August 26 to 30 in Cologne, while the big Opening Night Live was already held on August 25,
