For people over 24 – ID card fees set to rise
In the future, it will get more expensive to obtain an ID card! The Federal Ministry of the Interior is planning to significantly raise the fees. Adults over the age of 24 will have to pay €46 for their new ID card instead of the previous €37. Those under 24 will still pay the familiar €22.80. This change was first revealed by Bild newspaper.
But that's not all: the emergency travel document issued by the Federal Police will also see a substantial price increase. Currently, the replacement passport costs only €8, but in the future, it will cost a hefty €32. This document is issued when, for example, someone realizes that their passport or ID card has expired just before their departure at the airport.
The reason for the price hike is simple: the fees are intended to cover the actual costs. According to calculations by the authorities, this will cost citizens an additional €9.8 million per year in total.
