Court publishes alleged Epstein farewell letter – new questions about the last days of the financial investor

A U.S. federal judge has published a document that has so far been kept under lock and key, which is believed to be Jeffrey Epstein's farewell letter. The handwritten note contains, among other things, the line:
"It is a pleasure to be able to decide for yourself when to say goodbye."

The publication is once again causing international discussion about the last days of the disgraced financial investor, whose death is still the subject of numerous speculations, investigations and controversies today.

Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan in August 2019. The official authorities classified his death as a suicide. Nevertheless, doubts and public debates about the circumstances of his death do not stop to this day.

According to court documents, the document that has now been published is said to have been discovered by Nicholas Tartaglione – a former New York police officer and later convicted multiple murderer who was Epstein's cellmate for a time.

Tartaglione is now serving several life sentences for four murders in connection with drug dealing. His lawyers had submitted the note as part of his own criminal proceedings. For years, the document remained sealed and thus hidden from the public. Only after the "New York Times" reported on the existence of the letter did the newspaper successfully apply for release by the court.

The federal judge in charge, Kenneth Karas, has now ruled that there is no longer sufficient legal reason to keep the documents secret. At the same time, the court expressly emphasized that neither the authenticity of the document nor its origin had been officially confirmed.

Content of the note causes discussion
The handwritten note seems emotional, restless and sometimes difficult to read. In several passages, the author apparently complains about the investigations against him and the public situation.

Among other things, the following lines have become known:
"They examined me for months - and found nothing!!"

as well as:
"What should I do – burst into tears?! No fun – it's not worth it!!"

In particular, the passage about "being able to decide for yourself when to say goodbye" is interpreted internationally as a possible reference to suicidal thoughts.

In addition, handwriting has now also been analyzed with the help of artificial intelligence. Independent deciphering with AI systems such as ChatGPT sometimes results in slightly different formulations, as several words on the sticky note are difficult to read.

After AI-supported evaluation, the text could also contain the following passages:
"They investigated me for months – found nothing!!"
"So 15 year old charges involved."
"It is a treat to be able to choose when trying to say goodbye."
"What do you want me to do – cry again?!"
"No fun – not worth it!!"

In German, something like:
"They have examined me for months – found nothing!!"
"So now 15-year-old accusations are being brought out."
"It is a privilege or a pleasure to be able to decide for yourself when to say goodbye."
"What should I do – start crying again?!"
"No fun – it's not worth it!!"

It is important to note that the handwriting is considered difficult to decipher. Neither courts nor investigative authorities have yet published a complete official transcription. The AI evaluation is therefore only a technical interpretation of the visible writing and not a confirmed official translation.

The case of Jeffrey Epstein

For years, Jeffrey Epstein was considered a well-connected financier with contacts to politics, business, science and celebrities. As early as 2008, he pleaded guilty in Florida to recruiting minors for prostitution. Despite serious allegations, he received a controversially mild deal with a comparatively short prison sentence.

In July 2019, Epstein was arrested again. The U.S. judiciary accused him of abusing underage girls for years and building an international network of sexual exploitation. Numerous victims spoke out publicly.

Only a few weeks after his arrest, Epstein was initially found in his cell with injuries to his neck. At that time, the authorities already assumed a possible suicide attempt. Shortly afterwards he was put on observation, but later transferred back again. On August 10, 2019, he was finally found dead.

Doubts, mishaps and conspiracy theories

The Epstein case quickly developed into one of the most controversial deaths in recent years. Critics still point to numerous security and surveillance errors in the prison.

Among other things, several surveillance cameras did not work properly, security personnel are said to have missed patrols and important documents temporarily disappeared from the files. These circumstances fueled speculation worldwide about a possible murder or a cover-up.

However, official investigations by the FBI and the US Department of Justice continued to conclude that Epstein committed suicide.

Why the publication generates new attention
The fact that the alleged note only became public years later and was apparently never part of the official investigation files raises new questions for many observers.

According to media reports, the letter was neither evaluated by federal investigators nor mentioned in the millions of pages of Epstein documents published by the US Department of Justice in recent years.

So it remains open:
  •  Why did the note never appear in the official investigations?
  •  Was its existence deliberately withheld?
  •  Or was the document simply considered legally irrelevant?
The

fact is:
The publication is likely to fuel the debate about the Jeffrey Epstein case again – especially because numerous names, networks and backgrounds have been revealed to this day. of his environment were not fully dealt with publicly.
