Gogi Knezevic- The comeback fight this week on 22.11.2025
Gogi Knežević – The comeback of a hero
A boxer returns to the ring after depression, self-doubt and stagnation – and wants to save himself a second time at the age of 46.
When the lights go on in Vienna on November 22, 2025 and the ORF Sport+ cameras are focused on the ring, one person will be in the spotlight: Gogi "Lionheart" Knežević, Austria's first WBC title holder and one of the most dazzling personalities in German-Austrian boxing. For him, this evening is more than just a sporting comeback - it is a personal fight against his own demons.
From successful boxer to identity crisis - and back
After his last fight in 2022, Knežević abruptly said goodbye to competitive sport. He emigrated to Cyprus, bought a house by the sea and for the first time lived a life far away from training plans and competition discipline.
But the supposed freedom became a trap.
In an interview, he says frankly:
"I was in paradise – and became unhappy."
Instead of finding peace, he slipped into a destructive pattern of parties, alcohol and disorientation.
The radical change from 20 years of high-performance sport – or as he himself puts it:
"As a boxer, I lived like in prison for 20 years: train, sleep, eat, train, sleep, eat – again and again."
– left a vacuum that he could not fill.
He confesses:
"I felt empty. Most recently, I struggled with depression. I lacked that adrenaline when I get into the ring."
Many top athletes experience similar crises after the end of their careers. Knežević, however, decided to fight against his inner darkness – the way he does best: in the ring.
A comeback that is bigger than sport
In the fall of 2025, Knežević will be back where it all began for him at the age of 46: in the ring in Vienna.
Three fights are fixed, all of which can be seen on TV. His goal is clear:
"Nobody dreams in Austria anymore. Anything is possible. I'll show that and surprise everyone."
He challenges every boxer up to 76 kilos - even the big names. The motivation behind it goes far beyond sporting ambitions:
"Boxing will now save my life a second time."
He recalls his past: As a young man – sport was his way out, his discipline, his salvation. Now, decades later, the same path is supposed to stabilize it again.
"My resting heart rate is 38 – I'm stronger than I used to be"
Despite his age, he is more self-confident than he has been for a long time:
"I'm physically in top shape, my body is working extremely efficiently (resting heart rate 38). I have more experience than ever – and I will get into the ring stronger than I did when I was younger."
A resting heart rate of 38 is at the level of an elite athlete – a clear sign that his training is working and his body is ready.
His fire is back:
"I'm burning again. I'm ready."<a href="https://grafvonkronenberg.group/de/?gvkaf=135&id_campaign=13"><ADVERTISING><ADVERTISING><a href="https://grafvonkronenberg.group/de/?gvkaf=135&id_campaign=13">The Graf von Kronenberg Group is the official sponsor of Gogi Knežević.
