Harald Ziehm: What do we call after him?
Harald Ziehm: What do we call after him?
"An article by MFRadio.de reporter (ret.) and friend Hans Werner Oertl"
In memory of Harald Ziehm ("Schmackofatz")
Describe a life with four or five apt words that will forever be valid for posterity? Even with Harald Ziehm, who at the age of 70 fell asleep peacefully in his new home country next to half a glass of red wine, such a reduction will not succeed: energetic, knowing, friendly, helpful, but also argumentative and full of visions. Is that it? Of course not!

Old/daring: At 67 young entrepreneurs,
a little more about himself. Passion and passion come into play and the decisive sentence is uttered: "I like being a host". In other words, you come to him with a certain expectation and are then surprised as much as possible as a guest. This is exactly what chemist Harald wanted to put into practice at the end of this year with the opening of a large adventure restaurant. Death wanted it differently.
When looking back on days and moments together, you can smile from time to time.
2021, Tina's Café: Take Nano Organic Bamboo Charcoal, you can use it to refine your sea salt towards black...
2022, Akamas: His hiking group has to wait for him, both sneakers lose their soles and are held together with red hair bands.
2023, late in the evening in Maroni/Cyprus: Harald was baffled, we bystanders had to laugh: Our 1.94 meter man seemed - and this had probably never happened to him before - spontaneously missing all German and English words. As the now smaller one, our friend had to pull his head back in order to be able to look the newcomer, a 2.17 meter giant from the States, in the eye from below. "Otherwise I always have a different perspective: from top to bottom...". And everyone who knew him knew that he was not meant to be arrogant.
At that time, when they met at a private business party, the 67-year-old retiree was on his way to becoming a shooting star on "his" island.
The German-language Cyprus broadcaster MFRadio had celebrated him shortly before as a "young entrepreneur" and accompanied his unusual business opening in Polis with a live broadcast.
Six or seven years after Harald's emigration, he seemed to have completely settled in with himself and arrived. In his new role as a butcher, he was just becoming aware of his magnetic function. His disciples (i.e. customers) literally came from all over the world - Haitii, France, China. The regular clientele included not only German-speakers, but also English, Eastern Europeans and even Cypriots appreciated his range of sausages, which often included 40 international sausage varieties.
The self-proclaimed sausage maker (which is probably only possible in Cyprus) had amazed his environment in two senses at the time:
Have you heard that Harald invites you to taste Leberkäs and pepper sticks? What is the name of the shop - Schmackofatz? What does that mean? No sooner had they gotten used to the fact that production took place from Monday to Wednesday and that they only sold and grilled from Thursday onwards (for many, the fresh meat rolls were also a hit), when rumors circulated: He wanted to buy a goulash cannon, he wanted to get into catering island-wide, he would expand his business, he wanted to take over a tavern, he already had staff for it...
Harald Ziehm still had many plans on the island where he wanted to stay forever. Now, unfortunately, he has been surprised by eternity here.
Comments on the death of Harald Ziem
"Corinna and Fabian Schäfer"
"We were also able to spend many wonderful hours with Harald at his now legendary "Schmackofatz". For us, it was always like a marketplace in the most positive sense. Harald, always in a good mood, exuded an extremely cheerful mood with anecdotes, jokes or information about the country and its people, as well as he always had an ear for one or the other problem or profound topic. When my Corinchen and I last spent very entertaining hours on May 1st together with many wonderful people at the "Schmackofatz", we would never have dreamed that it would be the last event of this kind at our Harald's that we were allowed to experience. And unfortunately, we were not yet there at the brooding hour of our MFRadio with a live broadcast that was broadcast by the "Schmackofatz". So the whole MFRadio team is mourning the loss of a wonderful person these days. Harald, we will all miss you very much!

We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of Harald - known by the affectionate nickname "Schmakofatz".
With his warm nature, his humor and his passion for cooking and life, he was a real ray of hope for many people.
We will miss his commitment, his smile and his stories - but they will be remembered."

*"It's a pity that Harald has passed away. We often liked to be on site with him - with a smile and a hearty Mettbrötchen or a Leberkäs-Semmerl, he welcomed us again and again.
He was a good person – friendly, helpful and with a big heart for others.

Such people leave traces, even when they leave.
Rest in peace, Schmakofatz." *
