Hochfall Waterfall: A Hidden Gem in Bodenmais, Bavarian Forest
Hochfall Waterfall: A Hidden Gem in Bodenmais, Bavarian Forest
While it may be significantly smaller than its famous neighbor, the Rißloch Waterfall, the Hochfall Waterfall is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and enchanting spots around the market town of Bodenmais in the Bavarian Forest.
The Hochfall presents a captivating natural spectacle where water plunges approximately eight meters into a nearly circular basin, known locally as a "Gumpe".
A Testament to Geological History
This geological formation is the result of thousands of years of erosion. Over many millennia, the persistent flow of water has chiseled into the hard gneiss rock, carving out trough-like channels. This process beautifully exposes the striped arrangement of the rock minerals—highlighting the stunning layers of the Arbergneiss rock formations in their full glory.
The water then continues its journey, flowing under a wooden bridge before dropping down another few meters into the depths.
