Paphos-Polis road to be completed “by 2030 or 2032”
Motorway between Paphos and Polis Chrysochous to be completed by 2032.
According to Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades , the motorway connecting Paphos with Polis Chrysochous is scheduled to be completed either by 2030 or by 2032 at the latest.
During a visit to Polis Chrysochous together with Mayor Yiotis Papachristofi, the minister confirmed that the road will be built with four lanes, although construction will take several years. The total cost of the project is estimated at around 330 million euros.
Vafeades explained that a new tender for the completion of the first phase of construction will be launched in the summer. Work had already started but was halted after the contract with Greek construction company Intrakat was terminated. The aim is to find a new contractor by September.
According to the minister, the first phase of construction is expected to be completed within the next three years, while the tender for the second phase will be launched in February next year.
The first phase of construction will connect Paphos with the village of Stroumbi, while the second phase will cover the route from Stroumbi to Polis Chrysochous.
Regular review of the project Mayor Papachristofi stressed that Vafeades has pledged to visit the region every three months to monitor the progress of the road project, the expansion of the road section to Mesogi and the renovation work at Latchi Port .
According to Vafeades, the cost of the planned modernization measures at the port amounts to around 50 million euros.
"The aim of this project is to modernise the maritime and land-based infrastructure in the region. The port serves as a central gateway to the Akamas region and is an important port of call for pleasure craft and coastal cruises," he explained.
Planned modernization measures at Latchi Port
The planned improvements include modern port facilities, additional berths and technical and structural measures for the maintenance and repair of the boats.
In addition, new commercial and leisure areas are planned in the area surrounding the port, as well as new buildings for the port police, customs and fisheries authorities.
The relevant investigations are nearing completion and the tender for the project is to be published and awarded by February next year.
The modernization work is scheduled to be completed by August 2028.
“This initiative will not only boost the local economy but will also significantly improve tourism offerings and services in Latchi and the surrounding coastal regions,” the Minister concluded.
