Were there really witches in Cyprus?

Were there witches in Cyprus? A new cultural production addresses this topic!

Combining storytelling, flamenco dance, and theatricality , the performance brings to life the legend of the Witches of the Four Lanterns of Limassol – an often overlooked piece of Cypriot cultural heritage. Compania Flamenca Filippa 's production "Daibar Masal" explores the contradictions and prejudices of Cypriot society toward women through this witch myth.
A total of four performances will take place at the Cornaro Fine Arts Centre in Limassol , from Thursday to Sunday . The production will later be shown at the Mikri Arktos in Nicosia from March 20 to 23, under the patronage of the Spanish Embassy and the Cervantes Institute .
The performances in Limassol are already sold out , so two additional dates have been scheduled for May 31 and June 1 .

💃 Flamenco, Theatre & History – A tribute to courageous women
Through a mix of flamenco, contemporary dance, acting and interactivity, the story is told of these strong women who refused to submit to the social constraints under Ottoman rule and later under British colonial rule.
Based on a true story , the production highlights the strength and independence of these women. It sensitively pays tribute to those women who were branded as witches simply for resisting . The performance gives voice to their "ghosts" and reveals an authentic chapter of Cypriot history .

🎭 An interactive journey into the past
The play invites the audience to discover the silent rebellion and unseen aspects of the past. It sheds light on a time that has remained largely unknown .

🔹 Note: The performance is interactive and contains nudity , so it is recommended for audiences 18 years and older . Minors interested in the history of Cypriot witches may participate with parental consent .
